Important Buying Features For Women

Disclaimer: Needless to say, painting broad swaths over entire demographics can not only be tricky, but outright wrong. What follows are the buying concerns that we have seen for women in general.

There are over 100 different models of pull up bars on the marketplace, and all of them have different:

  • weights
  • build qualities
  • grips and available exercises
  • built-in padding
  • adjustability
  • etc.

Typically, we have noticed three main purchase concerns for at-home fitness equipment such as doorway pull up bars, those being:

  • the product weight and sturdiness
  • grip comfort
  • padding to protect doorways from damage

Typically, Women Want Lighter Bars

The vast majority of doorway pull up bars weigh from 2.2 lbs all the way up to over 12 lbs.

Often times the heavier doorway bars have multiple bar frames, and are rather large and sometimes unwieldy.

With a lighter bar, getting the device into position is much easier, and doesn't put as much unnecessary strain on your shoulders and arms.

Many Women Prefer Comfortable Grips

Regardless of gender, this is a top concern.

The problem is that the bulk of doorway pull up bars use rather cheap foam grips that compress too easily, which eventually permanently hardens and makes your grip much more uncomfortable.

Or, the grips simply tear and rip off after a few months of use.

Comfortable grips allow you more stability, and allow you to use the device for longer periods of time.

Many Women Prefer Built-In Protective Padding

One of the biggest problems with the earliest pull up bars was that their hard plastic covers over the points-of-contact would make unsightly scuff marks on your walls and doorway trim.

Thankfully, more and more products are offering built-in protective foam padding to guard against this.

Sometimes this is not enough, but it's certainly better than having to do the work yourself.

And now without further ado...

Iron Gym upper body

The Iron Gym Upper Body is the most popular doorway pull up bar in the world.

The Iron Gym

The Iron Gym Upper Body is (and has been) the most popular pull up bar in the world.

It has also improved quite a bit since it's first offering.

Here are the important things to take away for this bar.

  • At 2.2 lbs., it's the lightest doorway pull up bar on the market
  • It's grip cushioning is much better than average, and is high quality
  • It has built-in protective cushioning to protect against wall damage

Assembly and installation is a snap. There are not a ton of parts to snap together. As the picture shows, it's fairly straight-forward.

The foam-padded grips on the Iron Gym are quite comfortable, and don't tear as easily as some other products.

Although not the best, the Iron Gym comes with protective padding on it's main bar to protect against scuff marks and damage to your doorway frame and walls.

Best of all, the Iron Gym is a steal for under $30.

And if you know anything about Navy Seals, you know that they mean business.

Here are the important things to take away for this bar.

  • Highly adjustable bar that you can adjust to the width and depth of your doorway
  • It's grip cushioning is much better and thicker
  • It has a ton of built-in protective cushioning to protect against wall damage

Compared to the Iron Gym, the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym is a little bit heavier at 8 lbs.

It's also a tad longer and overall bigger, at 35 inches, versus 32 for the Iron Gym.

Compared to the Iron Gym, it's grip cushioning is not quite as comfortable, however there is a lot more cushioning on the device as a whole, which means your overall hand position might be better.

However, there are a few things that make up for the heavier weight and grips.

For starters, it has very good built-in protective padding.

Best of all, like the Iron Gym it's priced very competitively at under $30.

But does it fulfill the tasks that we need it to here?

Yes.

It's not as light as the Iron Gym, and it has a few extra parts (due to its U-rings).

It's not as long as the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym however.

It has very good grip cushioning, definitely of a higher quality than most pull up bars.

It's incredibly sturdy. In fact, it's one of the sturdiness pull up bars out there.

It does have some built-in protective padding, though not as good as the Perfect Fitness.

Best of all, it's priced extremely competitively, at a little less than both the Iron Gym and Perfect Fitness, both of which are already steals at their respective price points.
