  • Has 3 grip positions
  • Fairly light-weight at under 5 lbs

With that being said, is it good value for your money, or do the negatives outweigh the positives of this bar?

How Many Grip Positions Are There?

The HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty Complete Upper Body Workout Bar has 3 grip positions.

Those being;

  • narrow grip
  • traditional grip (about shoulder width)
  • hammer grip (palms facing each other)

The grips themselves are your standard black foam type. Nothing to write home about in that department in terms of comfort and quality, but they should get the job done.

What Exercises Can You Do?

With the HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty, you would be able to perform the following exercises;

  • narrow grip chin or pull ups
  • traditional shoulder width grip chin or pull ups
  • hammer grip pull ups (palms facing each other)
  • hanging leg raises

And you would also be able to perform the following, by placing the bar on the ground;

  • elevated pushups
  • sit-ups (by using the bar as a brace for your legs)
  • 50% or so range of motion dips

Like EVERY other pull up bar on the market that touts its ability to do dips, it's pretty much just advertising. You CAN'T do them, you won't have enough range of motion.

Overall, this bar would be sufficient for an at home fitness workout.

What Is It Made Out Of? How Much Can It Hold?

HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty Complete Upper Body Workout Bar review 3

This pull up bar is made out of black coated steel, and in terms of aesthetics, looks fairly average. In fact, it looks just like every other 3-in-1 doorway pull up bar out there, even right down to the color.

In terms of the build quality, the product advertising states that it can hold and support individuals who weigh up to 250 lbs.

Through careful research of consumer comments, this appears to hold true. Many consumers stated that the bar supported them just fine, and felt fine to use.

Unlike a few of the other bars which connect at the middle, the main bar is divided into 3 pieces; two short ends and a longer middle. Thus, there shouldn't be as much bending in the middle when heavier individuals use the bar.

Is It Easy To Install? What Doorways Will It Fit?

HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty Complete Upper Body Workout Bar review 2

So far, so good right?

Not quite.

Let's start with ease of installation.

With products like these, it's largely a snap. Often times the instruction manual can be a bit vague, however most of these bars only come with 6-8 connecting rods and parts, and you can easily just look at the picture and figure it out from there.

And what about the lengths and dimensions of the doorways that it can fit?

To install and mount this product successfully, you will need a doorway that;

  • that is between 27.5 and 30.7" wide
  • a doorway depth between 4.3 and 6.2"
  • doorway trim and moulding

And that's the main problem with this pull up bar, it simply does not fit a wide range of doorway widths.

For comparison, here's a table of 3 other similarly priced bars.

Name

Can Fit

Wacces 3-In-1

24-32

Iron Gym Upper Body

24-36

Pure Fitness

27-32

On the other hand, the ends of the bars come with foam-grips which will protect your doorway from damage. This is becoming more and more standard however, so it's not exactly unique.

What Are The Pros?

Who would get the most benefit out of this bar?

  • individuals who are looking for a basic, inexpensive bar to perform pull ups and exercise at home
  • individuals who know exactly how wide their doorway is (there is little room for error with this bar)
  • individuals under 250 lbs.

What Are The Cons?

And who is this product not for?

  • individuals with thinner or wider doorway widths
  • individuals who want to do more pull up variations
  • individuals who are greatly concerned about damage to their doorway
  • individuals who want the lightest doorway bar possible

What Are Its Consumer Ratings?

Overall, this is a decent pull up bar. It doesn't exactly shine in any one particular area, however as long as you know what you are getting, you will most likely be satisfied.

The HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty Complete Upper Body Workout Bar has an average number of reviews, and has a good overall rating

There should be two things to look at here;

  • how many reviews the product has
  • what are the overall ratings of those reviews

The long and short of it is that this pull up bar does not really excel at anything. It won't blow you away, but it will probably keep you satisfied.

This is a very convenient workout device. It's very well made and high quality and is easy to assemble. Sometimes, I'm just too lazy to go to the gym, so I use this on those lazy days. I find that it provides me an awesome upper body workout. I use it for pull-ups, mainly, but sometimes I'll do push-ups and dips on it. It always feels very sturdy. The grip is very comfortable. It's designed in a way to eliminate the potential for causing any damage to the door, which is awesome.

What A Consumer Says...

Is It Priced Fairly?

Most doorway pull up bars are priced in the high teens to low thirties.

This pull up bar is definitely on the lower end of that spectrum.

In terms of value for money, this bar would probably fulfill that at under $20.

You will be hard pressed to find a significantly better bar for a cheaper price.

Summary

Overall, the HemingWeigh Heavy-Duty Complete Upper Body Workout Bar earns a....

thumbs up and down

Mixed rating.

The reasons for this are;

  • only fits a very narrow range of doorways
  • doesn't significantly stand out in any one particular area

On the other hand, the bar is rather inexpensive at under $20 and is a pretty good deal.
