How Many Grip Positions Are There?
The j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar comes with;
- one set of adjustable, slidable grips
The grips are essentially black velcro that can be easily taken off of the bar to adjust to different hand placements.
In practice this really means that (when it comes to pull ups) you've got two grip positions;
As the bar fits inside doorways (as opposed to self-mounted which can have bars that extend beyond the doorframe), it's a little difficult to do wide grip unless your doorframe is ~40".
What Exercises Can You Do?
With the j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar, you would be able to perform;
- narrow grip pull or chin ups
- hammer grip (palms facing each other)
- “widish” grip pull ups (the distance is somewhere between wide and traditional pull ups)
Moreover, you would also be able to perform;
- handing leg raises and their variations
- tricep dips
- sit ups
However, it must be noted that in order to perform the last three exercises, you would need to drill more brackets into your doorframe, as well as insert the bar into the brackets (which takes a little bit of time) each time you want to move the bar.
What Is It Made Out Of? How Much Can It Hold?
The j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar is made out of stainless silver steel with black velcro adjustable grips.
It can hold individuals up to 300 lbs. however...
...because it's simply one bar that is kept in place by friction, several heavier consumers have noticed a bend in the middle of the bar.
This especially tends to occur when the bar is used in wider door frames.
Is It Easy To Install? What Doorways Will It Fit?
In terms of doorway pull up bar installation, it doesn't get much easier than the j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar.
To install the product you simply need;
- a space between 27-40" wide
- something sturdy to screw the brackets in
Preferably, the brackets would need to be installed in wood, metal or the wall-studs (if you are using them in drywall), as if the brackets are not securely fastened to a sturdy material, the device will collapse or rip out.
Everything comes with the box except for a screwdriver to screw in the brackets.
After mounting the wall brackets, all that you would need to do is to twist one end of the bar and telescope it until it fits into both brackets securely.
What Are The Pros?

- can fit doorways up to 40" (this is far wider than every self-mounted doorway pull up bar)
- can fit in doorways that have non-traditional doorway trim and moulding

Obviously, the fact that it can fit 40" doorways and doorways that have too thick or thin of moulding and trim to fit the other types of pull up bars is its hugest and biggest draw.
What Are The Cons?
Of course, this pull up bar also has some very noticeable and apparent flaws, such as;
- will leave permanent marks on the area where it is installed
- the brackets need to be left in the walls
- in order to perform other exercises (such as sit-ups or tricep dips) you would need to not only install a 2nd pair of brackets, but unscrew the device out of the brackets (which takes quite a while)

Summary of j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar
Overall, we would give the j/fit Deluxe Doorway Pull Up Bar a...
The biggest reasons for this are;
- can fit doorways up to 40" wide
- can fit into doorways that have non-traditional trim and moulding
There is a big caveat however with our thumb's up rating.
If your doorway is under 36" and you have more traditional trim and moulding, there really isn't a good reason to choose the j/fit Deluxe over something like the Iron Gym Upper Body.
Self mounted doorway pull up bars like the Iron Gym not only leave your doorway and wall free from permanent eye-sores, you can also perform more exercises with them in a much quicker and easier fashion.
