The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro

The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro starts at where the original Multi-Gym leaves off, offering angled wide grips and a heavier, sturdier frame.

Created by a former Navy Seal, Perfect Fitness has changed the game for doorway pull up bars by introducing increased adjustability and built-in protective foam padding.

Is it justified? Should you get a Pro? Or stick with the (highly-rated) original?

How Many Grip Positions Are There?

This pull up bar has three grip positions, those being:

  • narrow grip
  • hammer grip (palms facing each other)
  • wide grip

In another article, we reviewed the Multi-Gym Pro's predecessor, the regular Multi-Gym.

What immediately stands out is that the original Multi-Gym bar has four grips (traditional grip was the fourth), whereas this bar has three.

The main difference in these two bars (in terms of grips) is their wide grip handle.

On the original Multi-Gym, the wide grip is attached to the same straight bar as traditional and narrow grips.

On the Pro, the wide grips are attached to separate bars that come out from the device, and angle down.

What Exercises Can You Do?

With the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro, you are able to do:

  • perfect fitness pro pull up
narrow grip pull or chin ups
  • hammer grip pull ups
  • wide grip pull ups

You could do traditional grip pull ups, the problem is is that there isn't a grip placed in the spot, so you would just be using the bar. You would have to manually attach some foam grip to the bar yourself.

As well as...

  • hanging leg raises and variations
  • pushups by putting the device flat on the ground
  • sit ups by using the device as a brace for your feet in a doorway

Dips (like every other pull up bar) can only be done with about 25% range of motion. Better than nothing, but you can't really call it a dip.

Overall in terms of exercises, it offers an average number of exercises. A little bit more if you don't mind using just the bar.

The biggest benefit of the device in terms of exercises are its slightly-angled wide grips. The grips are angled at a slight downward position, which feels a lot more comfortable when doing wide grip pull ups.

What Is It Made Out Of? How Much Can It Hold?

Like its predecessor, the Perfect Fitness Pro is made out of white-coated steel covered with black foam grip cushioning.

The grip cushioning seems to be of a little bit better quality than its predecessor, which was just average in this department.

Another added advantage to the Pro version over the regular Multi-Gym is that it is quite a bit heavier.

The Pro clocks in at just over 11 pounds, whereas the regular Multi-Gym came in at a good 8 pounds.

Eight pounds for a regular pull up bar however is definitely on the sturdier, thicker end of pull up bars, and this version is even thicker and more sturdy.

In fact, it is one of the heaviest, thickest and sturdiest pull up bars on the market, and is listed at being able to hold up to 300 lbs.

Again, another advantage over the regular Multi-Gym which could hold individuals up to 220 lbs (a little on the low side).

Is It Easy To Install? What Doorways Will It Fit?

Assembly of this product is not difficult, and will take around 10-15 minutes at the most. All parts, nuts, washers, bolts and tools are provided, along with a picture assembly manual.

Like its predecessor, the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro also takes on two of the biggest complaints about doorway pull up bars. Those being:

  • perfect fitness pro push up
    their one-size-fits-all approach to doorways
  • damage to doorways

Of course, your doorway will absolutely need...

  • doorway trim and moulding (like all pull up bars)

And furthermore, your doorway dimensions need to be set within these parameters:

  • 27-35 inches wide
  • up to 6.5 inch height moulding and trim
  • wall and trim thickness from 3-6.5 inches

...the device comes with adjustable slots on the back brace in order to accommodate different doorway trim heights.

This is a very big advantage to this product, as nearly every other doorway pull up bar does not have this feature.

The device works by using leverage to hold itself up, with a rubber brace that sits on the top of your door trim (and has a safety clip to keep it from falling off, which is a nice addition) and foam-pads on the other end which sit against the other side of your door.

It's very common for most doorway pull up bars to leave scuff marks from these points of contact.

The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro tries to prevent against this by using foam-pads.

It mostly works, although the foam could be a little thicker and stretch out over more of the ends of the bar (which brace themselves against your doorway trim).

Overall however, this is another pretty big benefit to the product.

What Are The Pros?

Who is likely to benefit the most from the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro?

  • heavier individuals who like the benefits of the original Multi-Gym but want something sturdier
  • those concerned about possible damage to their doorway
  • those who want the luxury of more comfortable wide grip pull ups
  • those unsure of, or simply want more adjustability

The most defining feature of this product is its superior wide grips, its sturdiness and adjustability.

What Are Its Cons?

And although it has some really unique advantages, this product just won't be for everyone. Who should probably look elsewhere?

  • individuals who want to do traditional (shoulder length) pull or chin ups
  • individuals who want a lighter doorway bar
  • individuals who want a more inexpensive doorway bar

The biggest disadvantage of this device are the lack of grips for a traditional pull up, and its price.

If you like the adjustability and need to do traditional pull ups, check out the original Multi-Gym.

What Are Its Consumer Ratings?

perfect fitness pro box
Ratings, ratings, ratings.

When it comes to consumer products, they aren't all equal.

The two easiest ways to compare any product within a niche is to compare...

  • the number of reviews that were written
  • the overall rating that consumers gave the product

When both of these metrics are high, chances are you will be satisfied.

When it comes to the Multi-Gym Pro, it has an average number of reviews written and an above-average rating.

The biggest fault that consumers had was mostly due to assembly (there are lots of parts) and it being a little heavy (it's definitely on the heavier side).

Its adjustability, sturdiness and grips are its high points.

These Perfect Fitness products are well made, and by well made, I mean they are REALLY HEAVY and feel more secure than the standard iron-gym which I have also owned.

What A Consumer Says...

Is It Priced Fairly?

Most doorway pull up bars are priced somewhere in the teens to low thirties.

The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pull Up Bar is priced higher than that range, which makes it a little expensive.

Taking into account its unique adjustability, its built-in padding, heaviness, sturdiness and its better wide grips, its probably at a fair price.

If those are things which matter to you.

In our final opinion, we would give the Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro a...

thumbs up

Here's the biggest reasons for our rating.

  • it's heavier and much more sturdy than the majority of other pull up bars
  • its angled wide grips make doing wide grip pull ups much more comfortable
  • its adjustability to different sized doorways and doorway trim
  • its built-in padding to protect doorway trim from damage

That being said, this product isn't going to appeal to everyone, so in that case it would be better to check out our very simple, comprehensive table breaking down every pull up bar we have reviewed thus far.
