Consumer Rating

The Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose

The Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar is an overall good bar.

It's priced at the lower end of the normal spectrum of doorway pull up bars, which begs the question: "Does it provide a good enough value for the price?"

If what you are looking for a is a bare-bones product to simply get you through your workout, this device may be suitable for you.

Here are the important things to take away for this bar.

  • Good for lighter individuals
  • Very competitively priced

Iron Gym upper body

  • Extremely light at 2.2 lbs.
  • Extremely easy to install

How Many Grip Positions Are There?

The Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar has three grip positions. They are:

  • narrow grip
  • traditional grip (slightly wider than shoulder width)
  • hammer grip (palms facing each other)

Concerning the grips themselves, the material is made out of foam cushioning, much like other products.

However, the quality of the grips themselves rather low, and as such, they tend to tear and crumple with use.

What Exercises Can You Do?

With the Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar you would be able to perform an average number of pull and chin up variations.

Pure Fitness push ups
With it, you are able to perform:

  • narrow grip pull or chin ups
  • traditional (slightly wider than shoulder width) pull ups
  • hammer (palms facing each other) pull ups

Like most other doorway pull up bars, you can also perform:

  • hanging leg raises
  • pushups (when the device is laid flat on the ground)
  • can act as a brace for your feet for sit ups when braced against the doorway

There are no extra accessories such as ab strap that come with the product.

In the promotional content, there are pictures and statements stating that you would be able to perform dips with the device placed on the floor, however the device sits too low to the ground in order to get a full range of motion and extension.

This is pretty much the exact same as every other doorway pull up bar however.

If you are looking for just an ordinary pull up bar to get in some pull ups or chin ups, then this device would be OK for you.

What Is It Made Out Of?

The Pure Fitness pull up bar is made out of black-coated steel with black cushioned grips.

The user instruction manual states that individuals up to 250 lbs. should have no problems using the product for all their pull and chin up needs, however...

Pure Fitness Pull Up Bar leg stretch
...there are a number of issues that a large number of consumers have cited.

Chief among them is:

  • the bolts themselves are sometimes prone to snapping off, and do not appear to be high quality or strong
  • the long bar (the bar that lays across your doorway) is split into three sections, and perhaps for this reason the device doesn't tend to feel very secure and stable when heavier individuals (over 200 lbs.) use it

Generally speaking, doorway pull up bars tend to be very stable and secure when they are placed on most doorways, because they are not built using very complex parts, and because they use leverage.

So while the Pure Fitness pull up bar is a safe device to use, it's probably not the best option for those who weigh over 200 lbs.

For a pull up bar that is a bit more sturdy and secure, you might want to check out the Stamina Doorway Trainer Plus.

Lighter consumers (under 170 lbs. or so) tended to feel the device was very secure and snug.

Is It Easy To Install? What Door frames Will It Fit?

Installation for the Pure Fitness pull up bar is very simple and should take around 10 minutes.

All the screws, washers, nuts, bolts and pieces come with an allen wrench so that you don't need anything extra to assemble it.

Pure Fitness push ups
The long bar (that fits across your doorway) comes in three pieces.

There are no optional braces that come in the box, so if you are looking for a permanently fixed pull up bar you will need to look elsewhere.

Like other pull up bars, your doorframe will need:

  • doorway trim & moulding

This product will fit many doorways, however, the range of doorways that it can fit is somewhat below average.

  • it will only fit doorways from 27-32" in width
  • the doorway trim and moulding must be 5.5 inches or less or the back brace won't have enough room to hook around
  • your actual doorway (the width between the outside and inside) must be less than 6.3 inches

If your doorway is bigger than 32", you might want to check out the Iron Gym pull up bar, which can (with extensions) reach up to 36".

If you need something to travel with, you could theoretically disassemble it, pack it in your luggage and take it out when you need it, as it's not very complex.

However, you are better off going with something like an Iron Gym, which is both lighter and has a few less parts.

Like the majority of doorway pull up bars, this product may leave black scuff marks on your doorframe and paint.

This is extremely common in these types of products.

The best way to protect against this is to wrap an old t-shirt or use tape around the points of contact, or to place cardboard in between the points of contact and your wall.

What Are The Pros?

Who would get the most benefit out of this product?

  • lighter individuals (under 200 lbs.)
  • individuals who just want a bare-bones doorway bar to do pull ups and chin ups
  • individuals who are very pressed for $ and still need something to enable them to do pull ups for chin ups

What Are The Cons?

Who is this product not for?

  • people who want to do a large variety of exercises
  • taller and heavier individuals
  • those who want to permanently fix a pull up bar somewhere in their home
  • those who travel often and need a piece of equpment to help them do pull ups
  • people with narrower or wider doorways

What Are Its Consumer Ratings?

The Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar is an overall good doorway bar.

It does not excel in any one particular area, such as number of exercises, or build quality, so if you want a cheap, bare-bones product it would probably get you by.

Pure Fitness Pull Up Bar Main
It has an average number of reviews, which suggests that a good number of people have bought the product, and the overall ratings for the device are good.

Any pull up bar that is able to:

  • mass a large number of reviews
  • maintain a very high rating

....will most likely be a very good purchase.

The Pure Fitness pull up bar doesn't exceptionally meet either of these requirements.

So, while you are will probably not be blown away, it will probably get the job done.

I love this bar. Pull-ups whenever you want to do them. I put it on my walk-in closet and do so many pull-ups whenever I walk into my closet as a rule.

What A Consumer Says...

Is It Priced Fairly?

Most doorway pull up bars are priced somewhere between the mid teens and thirties.

The Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar is placed at the lower end of that spectrum.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of this product is its price. Considering what it does, we feel that it is priced very fairly.

You will probably not find a better alternative for less money.

In our final opinion, we would give the Pure Fitness Multi-Purpose Pull Up Bar a...

thumbs up and down

This depends totally on what you would need the device for, as there are some other bars which are simply better.

If you are looking for a bare-bones doorway pull up bar and simply want to spend the least amount of money as possible, then you will probably be satisfied.

That being said, the Iron Gym for instance, does everything that this bar does, and is lighter and a little bit higher quality, for a slightly higher price.
