The Best Removable Chin Up Bar For Doorways
The Perfect Fitness Elite pull up bar.
I may sound a little biased here because I am a huge fan of the Perfect Fitness lineup.
But not without good reason!
Over the last two years I have watched as the Perfect Fitness pull up bar has made some rather significant changes. What was already my favorite pull up bar has done nothing but improve at nearly every turn.
I have not seen such continual improvements in any other company producing pull-up bars.
See for yourself:
This is a company actually that listens to consumers.
It takes their complaints seriously. What they say seriously.
And then it strives and actually implements changes to rectify those complaints.
But, enough about the company, you came here for the best removable chin up bar for doorways, right?!
Here's what the Perfect Fitness Elite gets right:
Why Removability Matters
Removability simply refers to the ability to quickly setup and place your pull-up bar in the right position, and quickly get it out of the way after you are finished.
The key word here is quickly.
What does this mean?
This means that bars that need to be screwed or telescoped into or out the wall are automatically out of the equation.
They simply take way too long to set-up, and just as long to put away.
That only leaves 1 type of pull up bar.
A pull up bar that braces itself on the top doorframe, and then wraps around to the other side for support.
In my experience these types of pull-up bars are far, far superior and preferential to any other type of screw-in bar, simply for that reason alone. The unsightly left-in screw-ins are even more to that point.
And how does the Perfect Fitness Elite perform in terms of removability?
It passes with flying colors!
It can be set-up and properly braced in a good 5 seconds, and probably taken down in a few.
That's not all though.
Why Sturdiness Matters
What does it matter if you can set up and get your pull up bar into position, if it can't even hold your weight??!
This is why sturdiness, or the ability of a bar to safely and comfortably hold your weight, is so important.
By "safely and comfortably" I mean that the bar isn't bending in the middle while you hang on it. It also isn't swaying or rocking a bit into and out of position as you perform your pull ups.
It's safe, solid and secure for you.
Because of the shape of the design, everything stays into place, secure from unnecessary and dangerous rocking and swaying.
That isn't quite everything, though.
Why Grip Comfort Matters
If removability and sturdiness was everything, I wouldn't go as far as to call the Perfect Fitness pull up bar the best removable chin up bar for doorways.
Because of a little thing called grip comfort.
This is where just about every pull up bar on the market gets it wrong.
And how does the Perfect Fitness Elite perform here?
Let's just say that the bar has been set so low with everyone else's padded grips that it isn't too difficult to beat out the competition.
The best part of the Perfect Fitness Elite's grips is that they aren't too soft and supple. They are thick, dense and hard.
You want that.
Soft, supple grips that luxuriously melt into the palm of your hands will quickly turn into compacted, bumpy pads.
You want something that is firm, dense and at the same time comfortable.
This bar has just that.
But, that isn't quite everything just yet!
Why You Need A Range of Exercise Options
The whole point of a chin up bar is to perform chin ups, right?
Well, that is all well and good and everything but...
...don't you want to be able to perform as many chin up and pull up variations as possible?
What if you were limited to just a single type of chin or pull up?
What if you weren't?
I think you see my point here. The more option and variation you have, the more satisfied you will be, and the more satisfied your muscles will be.
Ideally, you would want to be able to perform:
This is why the Elite version takes home the prize for best removable chin up bar for your doorway.
Unlike a lot of other plain, standard chin up bars where you are left being able to only perform one iteration of a chin or pull up, this bar lets you get a wide-range of exercises into your workout.
Advantage, Perfect Fitness Elite.
But wait, what's the kicker?
Why You Need In-Built Wall Product Wall Protection
The kicker is wall damage.
This is where just about everyone gets it wrong.
A lot of bars get the grips right, the sturdiness right, the exercise options right, even the styling right, but they cause way too much damage to your doorframe and walls.
Like exercise option availability, ideally you'd want a bar that doesn't cause any wall damage.
This is what puts the Perfect Fitness Elite over the top in my opinion.
All the points of contact on this bar have been carefully crafted and designed as to protect your doorframe, and minimize or even eliminate any scuffing on your wall paint.
In previous versions of the Perfect Fitness, the bar used a special raised foam pad as its point of contacts on the door frame.
This was fine, initially.
But what happened is that over time the foam padding would compact and the bar would end up leaving marks due to the poor quality of padding.
That has been completely changed to a new, superior soft rubber padding that is denser, but at the same time doesn't compact over time and leave marks.
So, you don't need to worry about jerry-rigging your device with rolls of toilet paper, or taping up pieces of cardboard to your wall. The Perfect Fitness Elite will avoid all of that and leave your doorframe just the way it was before you starting using it as a brace to perform chin ups.

Now, that doesn't mean that this bar doesn't have its flaws.
It does, like any other product.
- 1The wide-grips aren't as wide as I would personally like (I like to go really wide). In order to do that, you need to use almost a hammer grip on the U-ring.
- 2Secondly, the price of the bar is slightly higher than average. It isn't prohibitively expensive, but it isn't the cheapest, either.
Although, I do believe you get what you pay for in the end.
That being said, that simply isn't enough to dethrone the Perfect Fitness Elite as the best removable chin up bar for doorways.
